Our club sponsored local students to the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp. The students regaled us with stories of their trip, where they learned leadership skills. These kids will be our future leaders!
The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a three-day Leadership Conference in Crestline, CA. It is a reward for outstanding youth to further develop their leadership skills with small group discussions, teamwork activities and passionate speakers. Sponsored by the 63 Rotary Clubs in Distinct 5330 (San Bernardino & Riverside Counties) including our 29 palms Rotary Club, RYLA combines learning in a casual, relaxed atmosphere with social and fun time to provide a fast paced and memorable leadership experience. It was great to hear these future leaders’ stories of how RYLA is already changing their lives!

The Twentynine Palms Rotary Club is sponsoring a unique event that is part of the opening ceremonies for the Twentynine Palms Little League.
For over 30 years, the Little League organization has been providing baseball and softball to the community. At 6:00 PM this Saturday, March 31, 2023, the official opening ceremonies for the league’s Spring season will be held on the ballfields at Luckie Park. This year, for the first time, the League will show a movie on two giant screens set up right on the fields immediately following the ceremonies. The movie “THE SANDLOT” was chosen because it has a great message and focuses on youth athletics the sport of baseball. The problem was the cost of royalties and rights to screen the movie. Hearing of the need, the Rotary Club stepped up to sponsor the event by paying the costs to bring the film to Twentynine Palms. Accepting the check at a recent Rotary meeting, Twentynine Palms Little League President Nic Ibarra said “We wanted to do something special to kick off this year’s season and we felt having all the teams gather to enjoy a movie together is a great way to foster camaraderie and do team-building.” The Twentynine Palms Rotary Club, chartered in 1948, is part of Rotary International, a non-profit dedicated to Community Service and World Peace, there are 1.2 million Rotarians in 134 countries. They meet locally at noon Wednesdays at the Little Church of the Desert meeting room. Joyce Coffey, of the Alhambra Rotary Club, came to have lunch with us. It was wonderful to meet her!
